Module three: Assessing reading
Overview
Module Three provides information about administering a running record calculating text difficulty and assessing text understanding. It is designed to be completed over two weeks.
View a video of a teacher taking a running record as a student reads. Choose either best quality (6MB) OR average quality (3MB).
Then you will look at how to structure questions to determine the students' levels of understanding when reading an instructional text.
Following Module Three, your first task will be to administer and score running records with your students to determine their instructional level. Your second task is to determine each student's understanding when reading a familiar or independent level text.
