Planning and Programming
Planning for effective teaching begins by determining what students know and can do. From there teachers will identify what has to be taught next to achieve the English K–6 syllabus outcomes.
The Content Overviews for Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 (PDF 254 KB), pages 50–55, English K–6 Syllabus, provide information regarding the opportunities that students will be given when Learning to talk and listen ... Learning to read ... Learning to write ... Learning about talking and listening ... Learning about reading and Learning about writing for each stage.
The syllabus outcomes are achieved as students engage with the content of the syllabus.
The scope and sequences found on pages 66–83 in the English K–6 Syllabus contain:
- Scope and sequences of literary text types (PDF 252 KB)
- Scope and sequence of factual text types (PDF 257 KB)
- Scope and sequence of grammar (PDF 267 KB)
- Scope and sequence of phonological and graphological processing (PDF 279 KB)
Planning will reflect a balance of teaching activities that develop students' skills and understandings and their knowledge about reading and writing in an explicit and systematic way.
