Classroom practice
The State Literacy Strategy has produced several resources that provide teachers with models of classroom practice that support the key elements of the Department of Education and Training's approach to the learning and teaching of literacy.
One of these documents is Teaching Reading: A K-6 Framework. Pages 50-59 of that document contain suggestions for organising literacy instruction (PDF 512KB).
Teaching spelling K-6, pages 103 -110 also provides guidance about organising for instruction (PDF 61KB).
Read these sections of the documents to become familiar with the various components of a literacy session.
