Quality teaching
To support you in the implementation all syllabus documents produced for K-6 students the NSW DET has produced a model of pedagogy.
Whilst the implementation of the NSW Quality Teaching framework is not mandatory in schools, it does provide a common language for teachers to discuss pedagogy. Here is some information you may find useful.
- The critical Quality Teaching Discussion paper (PDF 491KB) focuses on teaching techniques and best practice. It introduces the dimensions and elements of the framework, which highlights the intellectual demands placed on the students, considers the contemporary social expectations that lead students to be prepared to become effective members of society and considers authentic tasks that are challenging for students and involve higher order thinking skills.
- The Classroom Practice Guide(PDF 2.1MB) provides practical examples that teachers will find useful in developing their teaching and learning programs to highlight elements of the NSW Quality Teaching model.
- The Assessment Practice Guide (PDF 2.8MB) has been developed to support school leaders and teachers in their implementation of the NSW Quality Teaching model in relation to assessment practice.

The model of pedagogy adopted in the Quality Teaching documents has provided the basic framework for the teaching and learning modules in Literacy online - Stage 2.
