Unit: Lifting the mask

Lifting the mask is a unit of work developed to familiarise students with art vocabulary, to analyse artworks using the frames and to make artworks from appropriated images.

Students work in teams to develop their understanding of the frames as applied to selected artists and their work. They use their knowledge of the postmodern frame to manipulate the concept and structure of an original artwork in creating a new representations of the image – in performance, digital and ceramic forms.

Literacy in visual arts

Students develop literacy in visual arts as they learn to:
  • understand and use art vocabulary
  • read the different ways of constructing meanings in artworks
  • convey meaning in their own artworks.
