Unit: Experimenting with sound

A series of eight introductory lessons for Year 7 to ensure all students have a common understanding of fundamental music concepts.

Literacy in music

Students will develop literacy in music as they learn to:

• understand and use the specific language of music when performing, composing and listening. This includes understanding and using music notation
• understand and use spoken and written language when performing, composing and listening.

Duration of unit

This unit of work is designed to be used in Term 1, one lesson per week.
There are eight lessons but it is envisaged that extra time may be needed for students to perform their compositions, for the class to listen to the sound collages and to study additional listening works.
